Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the common conditions that is affecting women these days. According to a study conducted by AIIMS, 20-25% of Indian women of reproductive age are suffering from PCOS.

In most cases, women experience hormonal imbalance, which leads to irregular periods, acne, excessive body hair, weight gain, frequent mood swings, thinning of locks and dark patches on the skin. Experts often suggest making lifestyle changes, opting for healthy options of eating and exercising every day.

As cliche as it may sound, your parents were right when they advised you to avoid eating junk food and getting up early to exercise. Yet, we often find it difficult to manage all that given our hectic work schedules.

We spoke to Khushboo Jain Tibrewala, nutritionist and founder of The Healthy Pantry, to bring you a recipe for a morning drink that can help you with the condition.

Tibrewala shared that in many cases a patient is asked to give up dairy food items. This is because they cause insulin resistance in the body, which is said to be the root cause for the syndrome.

Dairy products like cheese can also increase inflammation in the body which further develops resistance to insulin and worsen the symptoms of PCOS. However, Tibrewala said it is not a sure solution.

She said that giving up dairy may be helpful, but it can also lead to a deficiency of calcium in the body. For vegetarians, dairy is also a source of protein which would be affected if they have to give up milk, curd, paneer, etc.
