CRA/LA Bond Proceeds Could Fund South L.A. Pocket Park
Jun 2019

Longtime plans to transform a vacant in South Los Angeles into public green space could finally be moving forward, according to city.org/onlinedocs/2014/14-1174-S84_mot_06-25-2019.pdf">a motion introduced this week by City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson.

The project, located at the intersection of Western and Gage Avenues in Harvard Park, would make use of a city-owned median and an adjacent parcel owned by CRA/LA. Conceptual plans to reuse the vacant lots as park space were approved by the community in 2011, according to Harris-Dawson, with proposed improvements that include a transit plaza, a shade structure, fitness equipment, a mature climbing tree, security lighting, walking trail markings, and landscaping.
The motion by Harris-Dawson calls for all remaining taxable CRA/LA excess bond proceeds from the Western Slauson Redevelopment Project Area to put toward development costs for the Western Gage Median Park. The total amount of funding available is not stated.
The item has been referred to the City Council's Economic Development Committee for consideration.
?>The Western Gage Median Park is one of two parks planned at the same intersection. A second vacant lot across the street is also slated to become green space.
